White Sheet Down can handle almost all wind directions. Watch out in a Westerly as you may find flyers on both the SW AND NW slopes! Always keep a look out for walkers, dogs & farm animals especially when landing. Slope 5 is shared with paragliders and hang gliders and they have first choice of the hill. If they are flying we don't. Please note that we ALWAYS give way to manned aircraft & paragliders.slope-guide

Slope 1 is seldom used as it is quite low and not very steep but is perfectly flyable when the wind is from East to North. The landing area is excellent.

Slope 2 ('NW Slope') is the first of the main slopes, it is flyable from North to WNW, This hill generates a very wide lift band. The landing area is huge with smooth air flow even on gusty days.

Slope 3 ('SW Slope') The cream of the slopes flyable from WSW to S with smooth lift. The landing area is perfect, but look out for walkers, dogs & farm animals.

The Spine between Slope 4 and 5 is known to us as Whumpcrump. Flown with the winds from WNW to WSW the front side isn't the best in the world as it is only 300 ft high and shrouded by the Iron Age hill fort opposite. If the wind is much North of West however, the Dynamic Soaring is world class in good conditions. If you are willing to walk a little the landing is easy, or if you can land a model more accurately there is a small landing area much closer.

Slope 5 and the back of Whumpcrump is flown from South round to almost East. This slope is our only "shared" slope. The paragliders and hang gliders have first choice of the hill. If they are flying we don't
